Custom Consoles has confirmed three major orders for broadcast furniture following a highly successful IBC2008 trade show in Holland. Held from September 12 through 16 at the RAI Centre, Amsterdam, the exhibition was one of the most successful in its 41-year history with over 1,400 exhibitors and nearly 50,000 visitors.

"The broadcast marketplace is gradually expanding and looks set to do so at accelerating speed given the potential of IP-TV technology to increase the number of channels far beyond the capacity of traditional terrestrial and satellite transmission," comments Gary Fuller, sales manager at Custom Consoles. "We experienced very healthy visitor traffic throughout the show and three new orders were confirmed immediately afterwards. BBC Training ordered the new version of our Media Desk with a 13 U pedestal for installation at Wood Norton. And BBC Television ordered two of our new System 2 desks. The third order was for a five-bay Module R placed by the systems integration division of Shepperton-based reseller Altered Images Ltd. It will be an in-line desk with custom cut-outs in the worktop for the sound, lighting and vision. An 8 U equipment rack will be incorporated behind each of the five bays. The desk will be finished in maple with a blue Marmoleum worktop."

"We were greatly attracted by the Module-R design," adds Peter Gibbons, project manager at Altered Images. "It will be installed at a UK government department in a professional-grade television studio used for staff training. The Module-R design is highly configurable, superbly built and easy to install. Custom Consoles as a company has proved very co-operative and accommodating. Until now we had not been able to find a supplier who could bring us the cost-efficient solutions we need to provide in the current economic climate."

Custom Consoles' Media Desk forms the basis of an ergonomically-efficient and cost-effective working environment for desktop editing systems, allowing users to adjust working posture at their own desk or when operating across several locations. Height adjustment can be made quickly and easily using a retracting handle operating through a geared drive. Media Desk is constructed using Custom Consoles' proven M-Desk silver extruded aluminium desk legs. New features include a front-facing cable-access slot eliminating the need to loop cables from the rear, improved finish including an oak laminate worktop, impact-resistant liquid-moulded edge, and a redesigned 13 U side pedestal with improved ventilation.

System 2 is a multi-element furniture system designed to accommodate free-standing or pod-mounted equipment such as graphics workstations and editing terminals. The latest version, introduced at IBC2008, has a front-facing cable-access slot eliminating the need to loop cables from the rear, improved finish including an oak laminate worktop, an impact-resistant liquid-moulded edge and a redesigned 13 U side pedestal with improved ventilation. The System 2 range includes the S2-01B desk and S2-2B, both electrically adjustable in height from 660 to 1,200 mm. Desk and shelf each come complete with cable management and IEC power outlets. Aesthetic features include large-diameter radial corners. Additional components in the System 2 series consist of the S2-03B dual-VTR pedestal, S2-05B 4 U slide-out VTR tray, S2-06B under-shelf equipment pod, S2-07B 27 U front-glazed quiet bay and S2-08B 27 U equipment bay.

Custom Consoles' Module-R product range is a pick-and-mix control room furniture system combining aesthetically pleasing style with high durability. Typical environments include broadcast control rooms, security control rooms, network operation control and industrial process control. Module-R enables robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks to be produced to meet specific needs from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. The desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10 U chassis capacity. Cabinet construction is in high-quality veneered MDF. Other features include continuous brush-strip cable access to front worktops. Recent additions to the range include new 19 inch rear-desk equipment pods, new front-access panels with increased ventilation, and optional hardwood worktop buffers.
