Custom Consoles desks chosen for broadcaster's Welsh radio studios

Custom Consoles has completed the design and installation of four bespoke radio studio desks for Broadcasting House, Llandaff, the Cardiff headquarters of BBC Wales. Two of the desks are horse-shoe-shaped giving their respective operators a three-way surround workspace. Overall length and width of each desk is 2,400 x 2,720 mm with one right-angled and one curved corner. Both desks incorporate equipment storage bays below the main worksurface.
The contract also included two 2,000 x 1,600 mm L-shaped desks for use in radio bulletin studios. These are designed to allow seating space for a presenter/interviewer plus three or four guests.
All four desks are 720 mm high and finished in ash veneer. They have integral cable ducting and high-durability Rhinofloor cushioned vinyl worksurfaces.
"These are the latest in a long line of bespoke desks we have produced over the years for broadcast industry applications," comments Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller. "Many broadcasters have highly specialised furniture requirements which cannot always be met from standard modular desk components. In this case, the desks are very unusual indeed but demonstrate very careful planning by the BBC to maximise the efficiency of the staff who will be using them."
