CNBC Europe, the leading pan-European business and financial television channel, has chosen Custom Consoles to produce ultra-modern furniture for the reception suite at its headquarters in the City of London. Departing from traditional wood, CNBC selected cameo-white DuPont Corian for the receptionist's desk and a matching table.

"Our aim was to create an environment that reflected the modern-media business we are in," comments John Turner, Director of Operations at CNBC Europe. "Custom Consoles has worked very well with us on previous contracts and fully understood the advantages of this new material. A blend of natural minerals and acrylic polymer, Corian enabled us to commission furniture that contrasts elegantly with the reception suite's carpet which is in our corporate blue. The glue bonding the Corian panels is exactly the same colour as the Corian itself so the resultant desk and table look and feel as though each has been constructed from solid white granite. Quite apart from its inherent strength, Corian is much easier to maintain than wood and can even be sanded if the surface is ever scratched."

"The reception desk has a cable management system plus shelving to support computers and a printer. A plasma display screen is incorporated into a plinth unit at the end of desk. A semi-opaque screen gives the receptionist a reasonable degree of privacy without looking too much like a barrier. This is made from five sheets of 5 mm acrylic bonded together. An equivalent piece of glass would have been extremely expensive. Adjacent to the desk, to the left of the receptionist, is a three-door storage unit made of 18 mm MDF surfaced in 1 mm thickness hard-wearing white laminate matching the colour of the desk and table. Each door is lockable and opens for access to twin height-adjustable shelves."

"We are very pleased to have been chosen for such a prestigious project," adds Gary Fuller, Sales Manager at Custom Consoles. "Corian is an excellent construction material for high-grade furniture and was ideally suited to this application."
