Leighton Buzzard, UK, October 27, 2015: A leading broadcast systems integrator based in Azerbaijan has chosen Custom Consoles Module-R desks and Media Wall monitor display mounts for a major new project. The furniture selected includes two video production control desks, two video editing desks, two audio control desks and two Media Wall monitor display mounting systems. All six desks were prefabricated by Custom Consoles at its UK factory before being shipped.

The two Media Walls were shipped in compact form as vertical columns and 2.66 metre wide horizontal beams. They were assembled on site and equipped with monitor panels to display camera, VTR and auxiliary sources plus two larger screens assigned to preview and programme. Each Media Wall is positioned directly in front of a video production desk within easy view of the operators.

Both video production desks are designed for simultaneous use by a camera input controller seated at left, graphics assistant (centre) and vision mixer (right). Each desk is structured as a three-bay in-line 4.66 metres unit. Four camera control panels are set into the left-hand bay plus a Sony video production switcher in the centre bay. Two desktop-level equipment bays with space for a total of eight single-rack unit equipment chassis are mounted along the rear left bay. Two additional 4 + 4U pods are positioned at the rear of the central bay.

Each of the two video edited desks is configured for use by up to two operators. The desks are of rectangular design, 2.6 metres wide, with two 3U high desktop equipment pods. An additional Sony video production switcher panel and a central Sony video editing controller are located at right. Two TV Logic video monitor panels are located on the equipment pods. An additional monitor is mounted on the left-hand bay, suspended from an Ergotron adjustable height-adjustable and angle-adjustable arm.

The two audio control desks are single-bay designs measuring 1.58 metres wide by 1.2 metres front-to-back. Each houses a Soundcraft 24-channel audio production console, a 6U high desktop equipment pod and a 24 inch monitor display on an Ergotron adjustable arm.

All six desks measure 1.2 metres front to back and are finished in beech veneer with hard-wearing grey Marmoleum desktop worksurfaces.

Custom Consoles Module-R desks and Media Walls chosen for BT International Media Centre

Thursday, October 2nd, 2014

London, UK, October 2, 2014: Custom Consoles announces the completion of a new Module-R desk and Media Wall monitor-support installation at the BT International Media Centre (IMC). Located in the BT Tower, one of London’s tallest buildings, the IMC provides technical facilities for practically every television company broadcasting in the UK. BT recently awarded the contract to rebuild the main IMC area at the BT Tower to broadcast systems integrator VSC Design.

“The core of this project was a 39 seat operations area which is being used to monitor and control BT’s media services and platforms for BT Sport and external clients,” comments Martyn Hales, Managing Director of VSC Design. “The BT Tower’s circular footprint allowed a departure from the rectangular layout of traditional process control suites. Custom Consoles’ Module-R technical furniture gave us the freedom to specify desks from an established and proven range of modules. These are configured as two V-shaped units with eight operator positions at the front and nine and the rear.

“To the rear left are additional desks in three rows with seating for a total of 11 operators. These face a 5 metre wide Media Wall. A symmetrical but otherwise identical group of three desks and Media Wall is located to the right. Media Wall gave us similar freedom to design support racks for large picture monitor panels which can be assigned to specific video sources or multiplexed. Custom Consoles assembled the furniture on site and our technicians then completed the equipment installation. Everything was completed and live in time for the Commonwealth Games”

“Each control position has storage space for two computers in a ventilated storage bay below the desktop,” adds Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller. “Every operator also has direct access to two 4U high sloping equipment pods, three 22 inch flat-screen displays on Ergotron manually adjustable support arms plus a recessed power and data distribution module. The desks are finished in maple with hard-wearing blue-grey Marmoleum work-surfaces. We have also supplied a customised circular printer-support unit in matching finish. This is constructed around one of the tower support columns.

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, the Module-R product range allows aesthetically attractive and long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity.

Custom Consoles Media Wall allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. It can be used as a fully self-supporting structure or coupled directly to the studio wall. Individual screens can be positioned so that their edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself. All wiring is fully concealed and can enter or leave the structure at any desired point. Media Wall is available in a silver-anodised or black-powder coated finish and in any specified element widths.

Leighton Buzzard, UK, September 1, 2014: Malaysia-based broadcast systems integrator Digistar has chosen Custom Consoles furniture at the core of a new construction project for a large television and film production facility in Iskandar, Malaysia.

Six Module-R desks and six Media Wall co-ordinated monitor displays have been installed across two identically equipped television control rooms, each divided into three suites: Sound Control, Production Control and Lighting & Vision Control. The order also included 15 of the recently introduced EditOne desks plus side-pedestals and a Module-R desk for a central Ingest area.

“Custom Consoles Module-R and Media Wall gave us the freedom to order furniture from an industry-proven range of component modules,” comments Russ Jones, Chief Engineer at Digistar. The result exactly matches our customer’s requirements in terms of functionality, stability, visual elegance and dimensions. For the post-production suites where we needed stand-alone furniture, the EditOne series proved ideal.”

Sound Control Room 1 and 2 are equipped with an L-shaped Module-R desk plus a 1.5 metre wide Media Wall. Both sound control desks has 13U-high equipment bays at each end and incorporate a removable panel to accommodate various audio mixers. Depending on production requirements, 3U or 4U movable equipment pods can be positioned anywhere along the desktop. Cabling to the equipment pods is via a brush strip running the entire width of each desk.

Production Control Room 1 and 2 each comprise a Module-R desk facing a 2 metre wide Media Wall and a rear desk for clients or special production requirements. The forward desk is assigned to production control and has seating for up to six operators. A removable panel allows integration of various vision switchers. Movable pods can be located on each desktop, again linked via full-desk-width brush strip cable access. The rear desks in Production Control Room 1 and 2 each provide space for up to four clients plus support equipment in movable desktop pods.

Lighting & Vision Control 1 and 2 both consist of a Media Wall plus a desk with seating for up to three staff: tape operator on the left, lighting engineer in the middle and vision control engineer at right. This desk is fitted with three Ergotron user-adjustable monitor display support arms. A forward-facing single-user desk alongside a 28U equipment bay are located at the rear.

Developed for use in video editing suites, broadcast graphics areas and audio studio control rooms, Custom Consoles EditOne desks go beyond the traditional rectangular configuration by using sculpted MDF support panels rather than metal legs. The curved theme is carried through to the desktop and a raised monitor shelf. Integral equipment pods are provided. An auxiliary equipment pedestal with an additional 11U of rack space and an integral worktop is available. Designed for flat-pack delivery, the desk can be assembled in less than an hour using the supplied Allen key and screwdriver.
