Custom Consoles to promote latest range of broadcast studio furniture at CABSAT 2012, Dubai

Leighton Buzzard, England, 9 January 2012: Custom Consoles has chosen CABSAT 2012, Dubai, to announce major enhancements to its wide range of broadcast studio control desks, monitor display supports and storage furniture. New options for Module-R and Media Wall will be promoted on the company’s stand, S1-C33, together with an upgraded version of the SystemTwo height-adjustable workstation. Custom Consoles will be represented by Neil Reed (Managing Director) and Gary Fuller (Sales Manager).

“The Middle East market has long been an important one for Custom Consoles both in a broadcast context and in wider areas of industrial process control,” Neil Reed comments. “CABSAT is the ideal venue at which to meet existing and potential customers and to talk with system integrators active in the region.”

Module-R control room furniture

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range gives customers the freedom to design robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks on a pick-and-mix basis from a selection of standard interlocking elements. These include high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles with integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 in storage pedestal and 27U equipment bay.

A new feature of Module-R is a redesigned steel-and-aluminium vertical support with internal cable ducts. Resting on a broad load-bearing skid, the new legs provide improved strength and stability, protect studio carpet and allow easier relocation if required during technical rebuilds. Module-R furniture is available as off-the-shelf units in beech, cherry, maple or oak finish with a choice of hard-wearing arabesque, black or blue marmoleum worktops. Cabinet construction is in veneered MDF with continuous brush-strip edging and easy cable access.

Media Wall flat-screen monitor mounting

Custom Consoles’ innovative and highly successful Media Wall is designed to accommodate large or small arrays of flat-panel monitors and ancillary equipment. Easy to install and expandable to meet future requirements, Media Wall incorporates height-adjustable horizontal beams suspended between 2 metre high aluminium columns. Beams  allow easy attachment of large and small panels using pivoting VESA and plasma-mount fittings. Horizontal cable trunking is provided at the rear of each beam and vertical trunking at the rear of each column, enabling easy and expandable housing of power and video wiring. Equipment pods with 19 inch racking behind removable vented panels can be accommodated at floor-level.

Available as standard in a silver-anodised finished, Media Wall can now be delivered in an optional black-powder coated finish and in bespoke widths.

SystemTwo height-adjustable studio workstations

SystemTwo is a multi-element furniture system designed to accommodate free-standing or pod-mounted equipment such as graphics workstations and editing terminals. Features include a front-facing cable-access slot eliminating the need to loop cables from the rear. The SystemTwo range includes the S2-01B desk and S2-2B, both electrically adjustable in height from 660 to 1,200 mm.

New for CABSAT is a redesigned SystemTwo leg system with improved strength and stability and an integral load-distributing floor skid.

Custom Consoles Media Wall monitor-scape chosen for AP’s Global HD Media Hub

Custom Consoles Media Wall monitor-scape chosen for AP’s Global HD Media Hub

The Associated Press (AP) has chosen a large Custom Consoles ‘monitor-scape’ video display support system and Module-R desks for a new high-definition master control room at its global media hub in Camden, London. The Master Control Room (MCR) is the international hub of AP’s global video operation, serving client broadcasters on a round-the-clock basis every day of the year. The HD MCR project was co-ordinated by Letchworth-based systems integrator ATG Broadcast.

“AP’s operational requirements called for a monitor-scape occupying almost the entire front wall,” states ATG Broadcast’s Managing Director Graham Day. “Custom Consoles’ Media Wall support system formed an ideal basis for the design and construction of a structure that combined rigidity with the flexibility to add or remove individual displays over the course of the MCR’s operational lifespan.

“In line with modern broadcast monitor-wall design, the monitor-scape consists of multiple flat-panel LCD screens which are electronically subdivided into virtual monitor stacks allowing a large number of incoming or outgoing video channels to be viewed in parallel. Additional screens located in a horizontal row along the top of the Media Wall can be assigned as required.

“A four-position Module-R desk is located in front of the monitor-scape, each position accommodating control and system-monitoring equipment. An additional Module-R desk is located near the centre of the MCR for use by the shift supervisor and, when required, an additional member of the operating team. As with Media Wall, the inherent modularity of Custom Consoles’ Module-R enabled us to tailor the desks to fit AP’s precise requirements without the cost of traditional bespoke furniture.”

Custom Consoles’ Media Wall is designed to accommodate large or small arrays of flat-panel monitors and ancillary equipment. Media Wall incorporates height-adjustable horizontal beams suspended between 2 metre high silver-anodised aluminium columns. Beams are available in 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 millimetre widths and allow easy attachment of large and small panels using pivoting VESA and plasma-mount fittings. Horizontal cable trunking is provided at the rear of each beam and vertical trunking at the rear of each column, enabling easy and expandable housing of power and video wiring. Equipment pods with 19 inch racking behind removable vented panels can be accommodated at floor-level.

Red Bee Media invests in Custom Consoles broadcast production desks

Red Bee Media invests in Custom Consoles broadcast production desks

Red Bee Media, one of the world’s leading media management companies providing multi-platform technology and creative solutions to broadcasters, content rights holders, platform operators and brand owners, has invested in Custom Consoles studio desks for ingest and editing facilities in central London. Split-level desks from Custom Consoles’ Media Desk range have been installed, plus three bespoke desks.

“Seven Media Desks are being used to accommodate equipment used for editing video and audio interstitials such as programme trailers,” comments Custom Consoles’ Managing Director Neil Reed. “Media Desk’s split-level design allows computer displays and video monitors to be positioned on a height-adjustable surface matching the operator’s eyeline. The main work surface can also be varied in height, allowing individual users to adjust their posture throughout a shift. The Media Desks are configured as one four-seat group plus a three-seat group, each workstation accommodating two flat-screen computer monitors, a full-depth CRT monitor and stereo loudspeakers. Each desk is divided from its neighbours by an insulating partition.”

“We also designed and installed a four-operator single-level video editing desk, each operator being equipped with two flat-screen monitors on user-adjustable wall mounts. The second of these three desks is a single-operator L-shaped design accommodating five flat-screen monitors. Three of the monitors are located on an equipment pod at the rear of the main work surface. The third desk is a dual-operator ingest suite with a seven-pod raised equipment bay occupying its full width. This has two additional floor-to-desk-level bays, each housing a video tape transport and additional equipment. All three of the bespoke desks are maple veneered and have hard-wearing blue Marmoleum worksurfaces.”

Custom Consoles’ Media Desk features dual height-adjustable work surfaces, each with a retractable winding handle that can be parked once a comfortable working height has been set. The front and rear worksurfaces can be adjusted independently to any height from 660 to 900 millimetres above floor-level. Desk width is 1,800 millimetres. Front-to-back depth is 1,100 millimetres. Work surfaces on each Media Desk are custom finished to Red Bee Media specification. Legs are silver-finished extruded aluminium to the same design as Custom Consoles’ proven M-Desk design. The Media Desk range includes an optional 3 rack-unit under-shelf equipment pod, 13 rack-unit pedestal and computer mounting kit.
