Stockholm Sweden, April 20, 2018 – Custom Consoles announces the completion and installation of five control room desks for NEP Sweden’s television production facility on the outskirts of Stockholm. The project was performed in cooperation with one of Europe’s largest system integrators, Broadcast Solutions GmbH.

“Custom Consoles has a proven excellent reputation for high build quality, good ergonomics, attractive styling and close attention to details such as cable management,” says NEP Sweden’s technical director Jens Envall. “It was also able to deliver within the very demanding time schedule. The new control rooms replace OB vehicles which were previously used for technical supervision of three studios, Studio 1 being the largest in Sweden. The complete system is designed to operate in HD and UHD.

“All five desks are based on our Module-R series but specified with greater than usual worktop depth,” adds Custom Consoles’ sales manager Gary Fuller. “The two largest desks are 5.154 metres wide with 10 3U-high sloping-front equipment bays positioned along the desktop rear. These are assigned as front and rear control desks for the production gallery. A GVG Karrera vision switcher control panel is set into to front desk.”

“The third desk is a 3.1 metre wide unit with six 4U-high sloping equipment bays, deployed to control incoming camera feeds. This includes a support frame accommodating a four-wide by two-high monitor array mounted direct to the rear of the desk.”

“Desks four and five are a mirror-image design configured as left and right audio control workstations. Each of these is 2.1 metres wide and equipped with two 3U-high sloping-front equipment bays. All five desktops are finished in a leatherette effect laminate. Side panels are in oak-veneered MDF with a stained finish.”

The new facility is Sweden’s top location for productions of large programmes with up to 1,600 spectators, including nationwide hits. Broadcast Solutions implemented the ambitious project within just two months, from the start of detailed planning to commissioning. It includes 200 square metres of space, two large production desks, eight 55 inch multi-viewers, one 5.1 audio room, one engineering room and a central apparatus room. First show produced in the new facility was Stjärnornas stjärna (Star stars) on March 17, managed with complete success.

Worktop height can be varied from a minimum of 67 to a maximum of 125 centimetres, giving editors the freedom to work while standing or seated. Each desk is finished with hard-wearing graphite-coloured laminate on the worktops and above the equipment pods. Three steel legs with a horizontal crossbeam support each desk, the legs and crossbeam being silver-finished. The result is highly robust, attractively styled to match modern media suite environments, and very user-friendly.”

Custom Consoles SteelBase Lite Desks Chosen for New Process Control Suites

Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

Simulation shows one of the six large SteelBase Lite control desks designed, produced and installed by Custom Consoles.

March 6, 2018 – One of Europe’s largest energy management companies has chosen Custom Consoles SteelBase Lite desks for new process control suites at its recently inaugurated facility in the UK. The desks will be used by engineering staff supervising test cells relating to electrical power distribution.

“SteelBase Lite will provide the robust build quality and ergonomic excellence needed for this suite which is in use round the clock, every day of the year,” comments Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller.

“We have produced six very large control desks, all with light grey Marmoleum worktops providing a neutral work surface to avoid screen reflection. Largest of the six is a 3.85 x 3.1 metre L-shaped desk in 6 x 4 bay configuration with 1 metre front-to-back worktop depth.

“The other five desks are 5.4 metre wide eight-bay in-line units with wing extensions at each end. Worktop front-to-back depth is 1 metre, increasing to 1.2 metres at each wing.

“A crucial element of the project was the need to accommodate a large number of computers into the desks while still leaving plenty of leg room for the operators. Each equipment bay houses up to two standard-size PCs and allows easy front or rear access during installation as well as for routine maintenance.

“Each desk is equipped with monitor mounting arms supporting 16 24 inch monitor display panels arranged as two high by eight wide. The height and viewing angle of each monitor can be adjusted be the operators to match their personal preference.”

The contract was won by Custom Consoles in open tender, the first desk being completed within four weeks of the confirmed order.

Widely used in defence, surveillance and critical process control applications where they can be specified for single-operator or multi-operator environments, SteelBaseLite desks are built on steel base frames. Desktops are surfaced in a choice of hard-wearing laminate or Marmoleum. Additional design features of the range include hinged removable access doors, 19 inch equipment racking, heavy cable management, power distribution and data panels, and variable-speed ventilation fans. Worktops can be configured to suit individual client requirements. All elements of the desks are guaranteed against component failure for five years of normal use. SteelBase-Lite is designed to conform to ISO9241 part 5, ISO11064 Part 4 and EN527 Parts 1, 2 and 3.
