Liège, Belgium, November 29, 2017 – EVS, the leading provider of live video production technology, has purchased a nine-bay Custom Consoles Module-R Lite desk for the new IP Expertise Center at its headquarters in Liège. The new desk incorporates an EVS DYVI live production switcher and will be used to demonstrate EVS products in a fully operational IP production environment.

“Custom Consoles’ Module-R Lite was the logical choice for this application as it gave us the freedom to configure a design which exactly matched our technical requirements and the available space,” comments EVS Marketing SVP Nicolas Bourdon. “Module-R and Module-R Lite are used in many studios around the world which is an obvious advantage in a demonstration suite addressing the video production industry. The desk itself is 4.7 metres wide and designed for use by up to three operators. Nine equipment pods with 45 degree slanted front panels are positioned along the rear of the main work surface, each pod housing up to three rack units of communications or auxiliary control equipment. Equipment installed in the desk can be accessed very easily via nine removable panels positioned along the rear. The desk front and side are finished in white, the work surface itself being a hard-wearing white laminate. With its four silver-anodised support legs and silver-finished steel skids, it looks great and is very robust.”

“The desk chosen for this project is a standard design and should certainly help to ensure EVS customers feel they are experiencing their product evaluations in the surroundings of a normal broadcast environment,” adds Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller. “Module-R Lite was introduced for use in latest-generation IT-based studios where long-reach worktops are unnecessary. The front to back depth of Module-R Lite is a more compact 95 cm than the 120 cm depth of Module-R.”

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, the Custom Consoles Module-R series allows aesthetically attractive and long-life broadcast control-room furniture to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desktop-level pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity. The Module-R product range includes high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree, 30 degree or 15 degree angles with integral worktops, slide-out keyboard drawers, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, 19 in storage pedestals and 27U equipment bays.

Custom Consoles EditOne Desks in Control for ‘Mars 1001’

The Hague, Netherlands, November 21, 2017 – Custom Consoles EditOne desks have been chosen for the mission control room set in Mirage3D’s virtual reality 360 degrees and fulldome film ‘Mars 1001’.

“We researched the available desks online and at IBC,” comments Mirage3D founder and CEO Robin Sip who has produced the new film for digital planetariums around the world. “EditOne has exactly the modern high-tech look we were seeking plus the practical advantage that it ships as an easily assembled flatpack. We purchased four desks and expanded this to 30 using our green-screen skills. We changed the actors and extras and props for every recording. You won’t see the joins!”

“We have supplied desks to a very large number of production studios, post houses, broadcasters and playout service providers over the years but this is the first time they have intentionally appeared on camera,” adds Custom Consoles Sales Manager Gary Fuller. “The effects achieved by Mirage3D are extremely impressive and demonstrate how far traditional television can be developed as virtual reality becomes increasingly popular.”

Scheduled for release in June 2018, ‘Mars 1001′ centres on space reporter Miles O’Brien guiding viewers through a 1,000 day mission to fly a crew to Mars and return them safely to Earth. The production will be available in fulldome, flat screen and VR formats.

EditOne was developed for use in video editing suites and broadcast graphics areas. It goes beyond traditional rectangular styling by using sculpted MDF support panels rather than metal legs. The curved theme is carried through to the desktop and a raised monitor shelf, both of which are optimised for a centrally seated operator. The EditOne desk incorporates three equipment pods with a collective nine units of rack space. These form the base of a monitor shelf. Full cable management is provided. Power distribution is optional. An auxiliary equipment pedestal with an additional nine units of rack space and an integral worktop is also available.

Front and rear corners of the desk and auxiliary pedestal are curved, eliminating any possibility of collision with sharp protrusions and contributing to the ultra-modern appearance. The worktop and monitor base also have hard-wearing and operator-friendly curved edges at front, sides and rear. Finish is in oak with contrasting black powder-coated MDF. All furniture in the EditOne range can be shipped in compact flat-pack form for onsite assembly by customers or systems integrators, saving space, cost and delivery time.

Mirage3D (www.mirage3d.eu) offers a wide range of chroma key effects at its green screen studio in The Hague. The Studio sets can occupy up to 15 x 15 metre floor area and faces a 4.8 metre high U-shaped green screen wall. Stage facilities include a 3 metre diameter turntable supporting weights of up to 1,250 kilograms, an overhead door large enough to accommodate a car, roller scaffolding, pulleys, and a wide range of props. Clients can work with Mirage3D production equipment or bring their own production tools. The facility also has its own 8K cameras, edit suite, 3D animation system, video effects facilities, render farm and dome theatre. The resultant recordings can be digitally superimposed into any conceivable background.

Custom Consoles Technical Control Furniture Chosen for New Monitoring & Communications Centre

Tuesday, October 17th, 2017

800 CCL_SteelBase_control_suiteLeighton Buzzard, UK, October 17, 2017 – One of Europe’s leading courier service companies has invested in control desks and customised furniture from technical furniture specialist Custom Consoles. The new facility enables the company to react to changes such as road closures or bad weather, taking pre-emptive action, and informing clients in real time.

Good ergonomics, robust construction and the ability to match technical and dimensional specifications were key elements in the choice of Custom Consoles as the preferred supplier.

“We designed, supplied and installed furniture for the Monitoring & Communication Centre’s control room and two meeting rooms,” details Custom Consoles’ Sales Manager, Gary Fuller. “The control room is equipped with two six metre wide rectangular SteelBase desks facing a multiscreen monitor display. Each desk provides working space for five operators, each of whom has direct access two computer monitors within easy reach on user-adjustable Ergotron monitor mounts.

“Near the opposite wall is a custom-designed desk for eight planning team operators in a four facing four configuration. Each of these positions has a single computer monitor, again on a user-adjustable Ergotron support arm. Supplementary furniture provided for the control room includes storage facilities and a supervisor’s desk.

“For the larger of the two meeting rooms we have designed and produced a 4.2 metre long by 1.2 metre wide table with integral monitor feeds and power ports, for use by up to 14 people. For the second meeting room, adjacent to the supervisor’s desk, we has supplied a circular desk – also incorporating monitor connection ports.

“Finish throughout is in matching grey with highly durable Trespa pale grey work surfaces.”
