IBC 2019 Preview: Custom Consoles Announces Refinements to MediaWall, Module-R and SystemTwo

Tuesday, July 16th, 2019

Custom Consoles will exhibit the latest refinements to its MediaWall studio monitor mounting frames and Module-R control room furniture on stand 8.B38 at IBC 2019 Amsterdam, September 13th-17th. Also on show will be an enhanced version of the SystemTwo motorised height-adjustable edit-suite desk with greater lifting power.

“Originally developed for STV in Scotland, MediaWall has become one of our best-selling products with customers such as Al Sharqiya, Associated Press, Azerbaijan Parliamentary Television, BBC Scotland, BBC Studios & Post Production, BT Sport, ICS Media Production, Mediahouse, Radio-Television Slovenia, Radio Television Suisse, RT, RTL City, TBN and Telegraph Media,” comments Custom Consoles Managing Director Neil Reed. “The enhanced version incorporates redesigned lateral support beams which allow display panels to be attached more easily. Cable management is now via steel ducts rather than PVC. The new ducts are stronger and more attractively styled, which customers will appreciate in open-plan control rooms. The supporting legs are now a silver extrusion with a black cable management insert, to match the Module-R desk styles which we introduced at IBC 2018.”

“Our latest-generation Module-R desks also now come with a steel cable tray as standard rather than PVC, providing greater strength and eliminating the environmental issue of recycling plastic components.”

“Additionally on the show stand will be an example from our SystemTwo range of desks, now equipped as standard with heavier duty lifting pillars. Support capacity has been increased from 140 to 240 kg.”

Custom Consoles’ MediaWall allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. MediaWall can be used as a fully self-supporting structure or coupled directly to the studio wall. Individual screens can be positioned so that the edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself. All wiring is fully concealed and can enter or leave the structure at any desired point. MediaWall is available in any specified element widths.

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture range, Custom Consoles’ Module-R allows aesthetically attractive long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity. Module-R has been tested by FIRA to ensure compliance with current ISO standards. It is supplied with full cable management and internal 19 inch racking, accessible via removable front and rear cover panels. All rear surfaces and pods are completely interchangeable. A full length cable brush allows easy reconfiguration.

Designed for use in edit suites and graphics areas, SystemTwo comprises a rectangular desk and parallel monitor shelf, both being electrically height adjustable from 660 to 1200 mm. This gives operators the choice of working while seated or standing. Other elements in the SystemTwo series include an 11U equipment pedestal, underslung 3U equipment pod and 27U equipment bay.

Custom Consoles to Introduce Latest SteelBase Desk at British-Irish Airports Expo 2019

Wednesday, May 1st, 2019

May 1st, 2019 – Custom Consoles (www.customconsoles.co.uk) has chosen the 2019 British-Irish Airports Expo as the launch venue for the latest version of its SteelBase and SteelBase Lite range of technical control furniture. New enhancements include the inclusion of CDF (Compact Density Fibreboard) doors and side panels offering greater robustness and manufacturing versatility than traditional MDF.

British-Irish Airports Expo will be held at Olympia, London, June 11th-12th. Exhibiting on stand D2, Custom Consoles will be represented by Managing Director Neil Reid and Sales Manager Gary Fuller.

“We developed SteelBase to combine the robustness required by the utilities and marine markets with the ergonomic excellence and attractive styling naturally expected by customers across all industries,” says Neil Reid. “CDF has the extra advantage of being eco-friendly by eliminating the need for plastic components such as cooling-vent slots which can now be machined into CDF itself.”

Also on the show stand will be a desk from Custom Consoles’ Module-R series which allows customers to specify control room furniture and equipment storage facilities from a very wide range of mix-and-matchable elements. These include rack-mount equipment pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs with concealed cable ducting.

An example of Custom Consoles’ matching MediaWall monitor display mounting system will be exhibited. MediaWall allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. MediaWall can be deployed as a fully self-supporting structure or coupled directly to a control room wall. Individual screens can be positioned so that the edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself.

“BIA Expo is a logical show venue for us as SteelBase, Module-R and MediaWall have attracted many customers in both the civil and defence aviation sectors,” adds Gary Fuller. “Example applications of our desks including baggage handling control and supervision facilities at Gatwick and East Midlands airports as well as control desks for RAF Shawbury, the US Air Force at Lakenheath and Mildenhall, and Guernsey airport.”

RWG Chooses Custom Consoles Module-R Desk for Gas Turbine Control Room

Wednesday, April 17th, 2019

April 17th, 2019 – Custom Consoles (www.customconsoles.co.uk) announces the completion of a technical control desk for RWG Repair & Overhauls Ltd (RWG), one of the world’s leading specialists in gas turbine maintenance, repair and overhaul. The desk is located in the gas turbine control room at RWG’s Ansty test facility in Coventry and will be used by a team of four operators to supervise gas turbine performance tests.

“Custom Consoles’s Module-R series gave us the flexibility we needed to design a desk that met our exact requirements from a standard range of frames and fittings,” comments RWG Test Support Engineer Keith Buckley. “The configuration we needed was an unusual one that would give the team plenty of space to work while at the same time allowing them to operate as a tight-knit group able to react very quickly during the various test processes we carry out.”

“We made a careful study of the available technical furniture and are pleased to report that Module-R has conformed to our highest expectations. It is very sturdily built, ergonomically excellent and attractively styled. The desk accommodates a lot of processing and communications equipment, all of which is easily accessible from front or rear during installation or routine maintenance. That includes the cable ducting which is fully concealed within main desk structure and within the supporting metal legs.”

The desk comprises six bays in total based around a dual-bay-wide central position integrated with a 45 degree right-hand corner section connecting to an additional bay. Two additional bays are located left of centre, forming a 45 degree wing. Equipment pods with angled front panels are fitted in line across the central position with additional pods on the right corner bay.

An Ergotron operator-adjustable monitor arm is mounted above each of the 3U equipment pods, supplemented by two monitor arms above the left bay, a 9th support arm in the right corner bay and and 10th at far right. Total desk dimensions are 6112 mm wide x 2996 mm front-to-back with a floor-to-work-surface height of 744 mm.
