Custom Consoles to launch new version of EditOne desk at IBC2015

Thursday, July 30th, 2015

800_CustomConsoles_EditOneLondon, UK, July 30, 2015: Custom Consoles will introduce a new version of its EditOne desk at IBC2015 in Amsterdam,September 11-15. Exhibiting on stand 8.B38a, the company will be represented by Neil Reed (Managing Director), Graham Buchanan (Business Director) and Gary Fuller (Sales Manager).

Developed for use in video editing suites and broadcast graphics areas, the Custom Consoles EditOne desk goes beyond the traditional rectangular configuration by using sculpted MDF support panels rather than metal legs. The curved theme is carried through to the desktop and a raised monitor shelf.

“Our objective in this redesign was to enhance the surface finish while retaining the distinctive horizontal and vertical profiles which have made EditOne a popular choice for video and audio post-production suites,” says Neil Reed. “The new version follows the existing structural configuration but has powder-coated underside legs and pods. We have also enhanced the worksurface and shelf finishes, both now available with oak-effect foil applied by a thermoform press which follows the precise contours of the base it to which it is applied.”

“The entire EditOne range of furniture is designed for flat-pack delivery which allows very fast despatch to site,” addes Gary Fuller. “Assembly can be performed quickly and easily by the customer using the supplied Allen key and screwdriver. We also offer an on-site assembly service whenever that is preferred. Either way, the result is attractively styled and robust with a very long service life.”

Front and rear corners of the EditOne desk and optional pedestal are curved, eliminating any possibility of collision with sharp protrusions and contributing to the ultra-modern styling. The worktop and monitor base also have hard-wearing and operator-friendly curved edges at front, sides and rear.

The EditOne desk incorporates three equipment pods with a collective nine units of rack space. These form the base of a monitor shelf. Full cable management is provided. Power distribution is optional. An auxiliary equipment pedestal with an additional 11 units of rack space and an integral worktop is also available.

London, UK, July 21, 2015: Custom Consoles announces the completion of a new furniture installation for the church and London studios of Trinity Broadcasting Network. A 4 metre wide playout desk, 2 metre wide ingest desk and two Media Wall monitor display mounts were commissioned for installation into a playout control suite.

“A total of seven Module-R desks and six Media Walls have been installed at TBN Europe over the past three years,” comments Custom Consoles Managing Director Neil Reed. “The new playout desk is designed for simultaneous use by four production staff. It is equipped with eight equipment bays running the full width of the desk and accommodating up to 24U of communications or control equipment.

“The playout desk incorporates operator-adjustable Ergotron mounting arms supporting computer monitor displays and faces a 3.25 metre wide Media Wall which supports an array of programme source monitoring, preview and playout channel displays.

“The ingest desk is designed for use by a single operator. It is very similar in structure and faces a 2 metre wide Media Wall. All the desks are finished in black with silver-anodised aluminium supporting legs.”

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, the Custom Consoles Module-R product range allows aesthetically attractive and long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity.

Custom Consoles’ Media Wall allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. It can be used as a fully self-supporting structure or coupled directly to the studio wall. Individual screens can be positioned so that their edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself. All wiring is fully concealed and can enter or leave the structure at any desired point. Media Wall is available in a silver-anodised or black-powder coated finish and in any specified element widths.

Leighton Buzzard, UK: Custom Consoles has completed a suite of technical furniture for Southampton University. Working in partnership with Alton-based systems integrator Broadcast Networks, the project included a control suite and support facilities for each of two vehicles required to control flying drones and other forms of robotic device.

This activity forms part of the university’s engagement in a wide range of research programmes such as ASTRA (Atmospheric Science Through Robotic Aircraft) which aims to provide very low cost platforms for science missions such as pollution monitoring and weather prediction.

“The challenge was to fit four control and video monitoring positions into each of two Mercedes Sprinters,” comments Broadcast Networks’ managing director Tom Haye. “Custom Consoles worked from our drawings and produced a very space-efficient desk complete with overhead storage bays and auxiliary facilities. The desks are finished in maple with blue Marmoleum work surfaces and blue laminates. Each operator has access to a 24 inch video display and a 1 rack unit control panel set into the desk top. Key considerations were obviously good ergonomics, robust construction, attractive styling and avoidance of excessive weight. This solution has proved effective on every count.”

“This project clearly demonstrates our ability to provide technical furniture for locations where space and weight are important factors,” adds Custom Consoles’ sales manager Gary Fuller. “The configuration created in partnership with Broadcast Networks makes very efficient use of the available dimensions.”
