Input Media upgrades with Custom Consoles Module R furniture

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014

Leighton Buzzard, UK, April 23, 2014: Input Media, one of Britain’s leading specialists in sports television production, has invested in Custom Consoles Module-R furniture as part of a major technical upgrade at its studios in west London. The new installation includes seven desks and several bench tops for voiceover booths.

Three control suites have been equipped with a pair of desks in a front and back configuration. Each of the three front desks have four work positions and incorporates a Snell switcher control panel, a Yamaha DM1000 audio mixer plus auxiliary technical equipment. The front desks have a two-pod audio bridge mounted behind the audio mixer, each with 5U of integrated racking for equipment. Three monitor screens are mounted to the rear of the desk on user-adjustable Ergotron arms.

The rear desk is designed for use by three to four operators. This is equipped with four hybrid monitors on user-adjustable Ergotron arms, for computer or video feeds.

The third suite incorporates two desks in the same configuration as the other three but accommodating a larger front desk housing a Yamaha O2R96 audio mixer.

The final two suites incorporate a larger single desk in the same configuration, but with a reduced-size audio bridge module due to space limitations.

“We needed partner companies we could trust and which could deliver to a tight schedule without disturbing the other ongoing work happening within the facility,” comments Nick Symes, Director of Technology at Input Media. “Module-R gave our systems integrator, Gearhouse Broadcast, the freedom to specify furniture that exactly suited our needs from a standard set of desk and storage elements, but with bespoke components to fit our specific requirements. The Module-R furniture is strongly built, popular with our operators and highly practical in terms of access to integrated equipment. The project, which centred on an expansion of our high-definition capabilities, has proved a great success.”

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range includes high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, and corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles. Also available are integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 in storage pedestal and a 27U equipment bay.

Module-R desks incorporate steel-and-aluminium vertical supports with internal cable ducts. Resting on a broad load-bearing skid, the legs provide high strength and stability, protect studio carpet and allow easy relocation if required during technical rebuilds.

Module-R furniture is available as off-the-shelf units in beech, cherry, maple or oak finish with a choice of hard-wearing arabesque, black or blue marmoleum worktops. Cabinet construction is in veneered MDF with continuous brush-strip edging and easy cable access.

Custom Consoles SteelBase installation chosen for South Hook Gas storage plant

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014

Leighton Buzzard, England, April 2, 2014: Quad Vision, a leading specialist in industrial control room systems, has chosen Custom Consoles SteelBase desks and ancillary furniture for installation at the South Hook liquid natural gas terminal near Milford Haven, the largest facility of its kind in Europe.

Housed in a newly-equipped process control suite, the furniture comprises a 7.4 metre wide 13-bay straight desk, a 3.2 metre wide six-bay straight desk, and a 2.8 metre wide 4-bay curved desk plus a 1.9 x 2.7 x 0.6 metre storage cabinet. Each bay of the three desks is fitted with a slide-out computer equipment shelf plus internal 19 inch racking and cable routing. All three desktops are fitted with 0.8 metres high work-surfaces measuring 1.1 metres front-to-back. They are surfaced with hard-wearing white Linoleum. The computer storage frames are 0.44 metres in front-to-back depth and finished in black.

The largest of the three desks is designed to incorporate 13 computers, each with its own desktop keyboard and LCD monitor screen. The monitor screens are mounted on Quad Vision’s Vision Tree monitor mounting system at the rear of the desk. The 3.2 metre wide desk is of identical style, for use with up to 6 computers, each with its dedicated keyboard and monitor.

The 2.8 metre wide desk is configured for use by an engineering-support supervisor. The desktop front is concave and supports four equipment pods, each with a capacity of 19 inch rack units.

“SteelBase is designed for use in industrial process control rooms such as oil or gas production plants and was the logical choice for this project,” comments Quad Vision director Robin Hughes. “The build quality is to a very high standard both in terms of robustness and ergonomics. The desks provide easy access to stored equipment via lockable hinged doors at front and rear, and good cable-management throughout.”

Custom Consoles’ SteelBase is a high-durability technical desking system which can be configured to provide an ergonomically efficient working environment for any size of control room. All elements of the desks are guaranteed against component failure for five years of normal use. The desks are built of high-grade MDF on 19 inch base frames with powder-coated textured-grey vertical panels.

SteelBase desktops are surfaced in a choice of hard-wearing laminate or marmoleum. Additional design features of the range include hinged removable access doors, 19 inch equipment racking, sliding equipment trays, electrical wiring management with desktop cable access, power distribution and data panels and variable-speed ventilation fans.

SteelBase desks can be specified for single or multi operator environments. Worktops can be rectangular or curved, including angled or curved corners and optional curved-front-profile side panels.
