Custom Consoles Module-R and Media Wall studio furniture chosen for Irish media training academy

Monday, March 31st, 2014

Leighton Buzzard, England, March 31, 2014: Custom Consoles Module-R technical furniture and Media Wall monitor panel arrays have been chosen for installation in one of Ireland’s leading television and radio training academies. The contract includes front and rear production desks, a lighting and vision desk, a sound control desk, equipment pods and ancillary storage.

The new production suite is arranged as a 4.7 metre wide front desk with positions for a director, director’s assistant, vision mixer operator and a production assistant. This faces a Media Wall of similar width supporting four large video display panels. Each desk position incorporates a four rack unit equipment pod with a sloping front panel plus an Ergotron operator-adjustable mount supporting a supplementary screen. In parallel with this desk is a second four-position Module-R Lite desk for recording, prompt and graphics operators plus producer. Each of these positions has a full desk-width passively-ventilated rear-facing equipment bays, four-rack-unit desktop equipment bay and two video display screens.

The lighting and vision desk is configured for use by two operators. A lighting control panel is integrated into the left-hand desktop position together with desk-mounted primary and preview display screens. Camera control units are set into the right-hand desktop position, augmented by three equipment pods with a collective 15 rack units of storage capacity. Like the production suite desks, the lighting and vision desk also incorporates rear-facing equipment bays

Designed for use by a single operator, the sound control desk incorporates a 32-fader Studer Vista audio console plus a 13-rack-unit floor-to-worktop-level equipment bay and a six-rack-unit desktop bay. A monitor screen is mounted at the rear right of the desktop.

Each of the desks is based on an MDF frame and matching steel-and-aluminium metal supports with integral cable ducts. Surface finish is maple with hard-wearing Marmoleum desktops in volcanic ash.

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range includes high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, and corner desk sections with 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles. Also available are integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 in storage pedestal and a 27U equipment bay. Resting on a broad load-bearing skid, Module-R’s metal legs provide high strength and stability, protect studio carpet and allow easy relocation if required during technical rebuilds. Module-R furniture is available as off-the-shelf units in beech, cherry, maple or oak finish with a choice of hard-wearing arabesque, black or blue Marmoleum worktops. Cabinet construction is in veneered MDF with continuous brush-strip edging and easy cable access.

Custom Consoles’ Media Wall series supports flat-screen video display panels individually, in a horizontal row, as a vertical column or as a matrix, complete with fully concealed cables. Panels can be configured from a range of 1.5 metre, 2 metre and 2.5 metre width frames with optional matching equipment storage pods. Existing installations can be expanded simply by adding extra frames.

Leighton Buzzard, England, March 27, 2014: Custom Consoles reports a highly successful CABSAT 2014. Held in Dubai Tuesday March 11 through Thursday March 13, the exhibition occupied the largest area in its 20 year history.

“We have exhibited at this event for many years and 2014 was without exaggeration the best CABSAT ever for Custom Consoles,” comments Sales Manager Gary Fuller. “Our stand was busy with visitors every day  even up to the point where we were dismantling on the Thursday evening. We talked with people from broadcast and telecommunications  organisations as well as systems integrators and product distributors.

“Actual sales leads were almost triple the level we have experienced at other broadcast shows, thanks in part to the economic prosperity now being experienced in the Middle East and African broadcast markets and to an excellent CABSAT stand location. Our recently introduced EditOne postproduction desk, upgraded Media Wall multi-monitor support and established Module-R desk system all attracted strong interest.”

Designed for use in video edit suites and broadcast graphics areas, EditOne is an ergonomically efficient desk with three equipment pods providing a collective 9U of rack space. These form the base of a monitor shelf. An auxiliary equipment pedestal with an additional 11U of rack space and an integral worktop can also be supplied. Front and rear corners of the EditOne desk and the auxiliary pedestal are curved, eliminating any possibility of collision with sharp protrusions and contributing to the ultra-modern styling. All furniture in the EditOne range can be shipped within days of order in compact flat-pack form for easy onsite assembly.

Media Wall is a robust and efficient multiscreen mounting system. The latest version features a series of enhancements including narrower front-to-back depth, reduced from 600 to 500 millimetres. Like its predecessor, the new Media Wall is fully self-supporting and retains the option of adding coupling brackets directly to the studio wall. Freely adjustable horizontal and vertical screen spacing allows individual display screens to be positioned so that their edges meet exactly. Cable management within Media Wall is now along ducts with finger-trunking slots.

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range enables customers to specify robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks from a selection of standard interlocking elements. These include single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles with integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 inch storage pedestal and 27U equipment bay.
