Exhibition preview: Custom Consoles at CABSAT 2013, Dubai

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Leighton Buzzard, England, 22 January 2013: Custom Consoles will exhibit its technical furniture design and manufacturing capabilities on stand C6-42 at CABSAT, Dubai World Trade Centre, 12-14 March 2013. The company will be represented by Neil Reed (Managing Director) and Gary Fuller (Sales Manager).

“CABSAT has proved an excellent show at which to meet new and existing customers in the Middle East and African markets,” Neil Reed comments. “Central to our exhibit will be the Module-R range of control room furniture and Media Wall monitor display supports. We are also equipped to produce project-specific designs of practically any size and shape in a wide range of finishes for control rooms and graphic suites. High-precision manufacturing is a hallmark of our operation, centred on our UK production plant. A Custom Consoles speciality is height-adjustable furniture under manual or electrically powered control.”

Module-R control room furniture

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range allows* customers and system integrators to create robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks from a selection of standard interlocking elements. These include high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles with integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 in storage pedestal and 27U equipment bay.

A new feature of Module-R is a redesigned steel-and-aluminium vertical support with internal cable ducts. Resting on a broad load-bearing skid, the new design provides improved strength and stability, protect studio carpet and allow easier relocation during technical rebuilds. Module-R furniture is available as off-the-shelf units in beech, cherry, maple or oak finish with a choice of hard-wearing arabesque, black or blue marmoleum worktops. Cabinet construction is in veneered MDF with continuous brush-strip edging and easy cable access.

Media Wall flat-screen monitor mounting

Custom Consoles’ Media Wall monitor mounting system is available in a range of sizes to accommodate large or small arrays of flat-panel screens and ancillary equipment. Easy to install and to expand, Media Wall incorporates height-adjustable horizontal beams suspended between 2.3 metre high aluminium columns. Large and small display panels, or a mixture of sizes, can be attached to the horizontal beam sections using pivoting VESA and plasma-mount fittings. Horizontal cable trunking is provided at the rear of each beam and vertical trunking at the rear of each column to accommodate power and video cables. Equipment pods with 19 inch racking behind removable vented panels can be incorporated at floor-level.

Available as standard in a silver-anodised finished, Media Wall can now be delivered in an optional black-powder coated finish and in bespoke widths.

“We will also be promoting the latest version of our SystemTwo range of height-adjustable studio workstations,” adds Gary Fuller. “SystemTwo is a multi-element furniture system designed to accommodate free-standing or pod-mounted equipment such as graphics workstations and editing terminals.  The SystemTwo range includes the S2-01B desk and S2-02B shelf, both electrically adjustable in height from 660 to 1,250 mm. The key new feature is a redesigned leg system with improved strength and stability and an integral load-distributing floor skid.”

Three Custom Consoles Module-R desks chosen for 5 News London

Friday, January 11th, 2013

Custom Consoles announces the completion of a new furniture installation at the headquarters of Channel 5 in the City of London. Two multi-seat desks have been installed in the main production gallery plus a third desk in the adjacent audio control room. All are based on the Module-R product range. The installation forms part of a major technical refurbishment by Independent Television News (ITN) which produces 5 News.

“Custom Consoles’ Module-R series enabled us to configure robust, ergonomically efficient desks to match the operational requirements and the available space,” comments Paul Flook, ITN’s Head of Broadcast Engineering. “At the front of the production gallery is a 5.7 metre wide five-operator vision control desk with an integrated Grass Valley production mixer. Behind this is a 4.7 metre wide four-seat graphics control desk on a raised platform. Each of the nine operator positions includes a monitor display on an individually adjustable arm. The audio control desk consists of a single-bay Module-R  unit to the left of a Solid State Logic C10 24-channel sound mixer with a dual-bay unit to the right. The C10 is self-supported rather than being inset into the desk. The arrangement works efficiently and makes very good use of the 2.8 metre width allocation.”

Two operator positions on the right of the vision switcher incorporate twin auxiliary equipment pods set at a sloping angle to the rear of the main worksurface. Each pod has a 5U capacity. Each operator position to the left of the switcher houses two 3U pods. The graphics control desk incorporates nine 3U pods. All three desks are finished in maple and have hard-wearing graphite marmoleum worksurfaces. The monitor arms are LX models from US-based Ergotron.

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range allows aesthetically attractive and long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Co-ordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10 U chassis capacity. Module-R cabinet construction is in high-quality veneered MDF. Other features include continuous brush-strip cable access to front worktops. Additions to the range announced recently include new 19 inch rear-desk equipment pods, new front-access panels with increased ventilation, and optional hardwood worktop edging.
