Custom Consoles control desk chosen by Syngenta

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Syngenta, a leading global agribusiness company, has chosen Custom Consoles to supply a bespoke control desk for its Huddersfield-based process control facility.

Finished in dark grey, the new desk is an L-shaped structure designed to incorporate IT-based and hardware-specific control equipment in ventilated cabinets below the worksurface. The one-piece worktop is supported by seven 19 inch rack-mount equipment bays along its longer side and five bays along its shorter side. The equipment bays are formed in sheet steel to Syngenta specification. Total dimensions of the control desk are 432 x 373 cm with a 100 cm front-to-back worktop depth curving out to and maximum of 120 cm.

Located at the focus of the desk is an annunciator equipment pod accommodating rack-mounting control hardware. A total of eight LCD monitor screens are supported on two Ergotron arms, one mounted on each wing of the desk. The worktop itself is finished in hard-wearing Marmoleum with PVC profiled front edge reinforcement.

“Custom Consoles was a logical choice for this contract,” comments Andrew Woodcock, Technical Manager at Syngenta’s Huddersfield plant. “The company has long experience in designing and producing technical furniture. Its desks combine robustness with good ergonomics and modern styling. Details such as ventilation, cable ducting and access to equipment for installation and maintenance are well thought out.”

Syngenta has more than 24,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to bringing plant potential to life. Through world-class science, global reach and commitment to its customers, Syngenta helps to increase crop productivity, protect the environment and improve health and quality of life. In 2007, Syngenta invested $830 million in Research & Development, equivalent to 9 per cent of sales, achieving more than 300 new registrations for crop protection products and around 500 for commercial seed varieties.
