Custom Consoles completes large Module-R control-desk installation for European gas-supply company

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Custom Consoles has completed a major control-furniture installation for a European gas-supply company. The contract encompasses two exceptionally large process control desks plus a supervisor’s desk. Installation took place at one of the company’s UK locations in the third week of November, just two months from the initial order.

Largest of the two control desks is a 10 metre long structure capable of accommodating up to eight operators. The desk is inline for most of its length, curving through 90 degrees at each end. Fourteen Ergotron dual-monitor towers are located along the rear of the desk, each accommodating a pair of LCD display panels positioned one above the other. An additional dual-horizontal and five single-horizontal Ergotron mounts support a further LCD seven screens.

The second process control desk is 8 metres in length with a 90 degree corner unit at one end. This is identical in style to the 10 metre desk but has room for up to five operators. 20 LCD monitor screens are mounted to the rear of this desk on two-high Ergotron towers with a further two screens on individual mounts at the straight end of the desk. The two control desks face outwards in an open ‘U’ formation with the supervisor’s desk facing the shorter side. All three desks are finished in maple and have robust Marmoleum worksurfaces.

“We were able to match the client’s requirements exactly by combining standard components from their Module-R series,” comments Gary Fuller, Sales Manager at Custom Consoles. “Our 12 years of experience in supplying broadcast-grade technical furniture has proved useful in the process-control world which is making ever greater use of computers and related electronic equipment. The Module-R series enables us to produce high quality furniture at accessible prices and much shorter delivery times than would be possible in the world of one-off designs.”

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range is a pick-and-mix control room furniture system combining aesthetically pleasing style with high durability. It enables robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks to be produced to meet specific needs from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. The desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10 U chassis capacity. Cabinet construction is in high-quality veneered MDF. Other features include continuous brush-strip cable access to front worktops. Recent additions to the range include new 19 inch rear-desk equipment pods, new front-access panels with increased ventilation, and optional hardwood worktop buffers.

Custom Consoles awarded second studio furniture contract by Radio-Television Slovenia

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Custom Consoles has completed a second major contract for studio furniture on behalf of Radio-Television Slovenia, Ljubljana. This latest order is for a total of four rectangular Module R desks and seven SystemTwo split-level electrically-adjustable workstations plus four Media Wall flat-screen monitor mounts.

Two of the four Module R desks are in-line rectangular playout desks. Each has a 464 x 120 cm top surface accommodating two groups of three ventilated equipment bays and two centrally-located pods. Both desks incorporate a floor-to-desktop height storage cabinet and are fitted with five Ergotron monitor arms.

The other two Module R desks are production control desks. One is a 464 x 120 cm rectangular design accommodating three equipment bays at its left and two at its right. Its central section is equivalent in width to four equipment bays and houses a vision mixer. A 310 x 120 cm production desk has also been provided. This has four ventilated equipment bays positioned as two pairs spaced by a two-bay-wide central gap which can be used to house additional equipment.

All four Module R desks incorporate silver-anodised extruded-aluminium legs combining high structural stability with attractive styling.

The seven SystemTwo workstations will be used to house free-standing video editing equipment. Each workstation consists of an S2-01A desk and S2-2A shelf, both electrically adjustable in height from 660 to 1,200 mm. Desk and shelf were supplied complete with cable management and IEC power outlets. Each SystemTwo workstation incorporates large-diameter radial corners with high-density curved edging and a hard-wearing upper-surface finish.

“We are very satisfied both with the durability and the styling of Custom Consoles furniture,” comments Nevenka Zorka, Project Engineer at RTV Slovenia. “Our staff find the desks comfortable to work with and particularly appreciate the height adjustability of System 2. Installation both of Module-R and SystemTwo has proved quite straightforward given that all the furniture had been chosen to match specific room dimensions. The Media Wall screen supports were also a logical choice. They are stable, incorporate a sensible amount of cable ducting space, and blend in well with the Module-R desk styling.”

Custom Consoles’ Media Wall is designed to accommodate large or small arrays of flat-panel monitors and ancillary equipment. Media Wall incorporates height-adjustable horizontal beams suspended between 2 metre high silver-anodised aluminium columns. Beams are available in 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 mm widths and allow easy attachment of large and small panels using pivoting VESA and plasma-mount fittings. Horizontal cable trunking is provided at the rear of each beam and vertical trunking at the rear of each column, enabling easy and expandable housing of power and video wiring. Equipment pods with 19 inch racking behind removable vented panels can be accommodated at floor-level.

“Return business is always encouraging,” comments Gary Fuller, Sales Manager at Custom Consoles. “RTV Slovenia worked closely with us on the first contract so we were able to ship this latest order as flatpacks for them to assemble and install themselves. The new Module R desks are finished in maple with hard-wearing blue Marmoleum work-surfaces to matching the earlier installation.”

Custom Consoles’ Module-R product range enables robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks to be produced quickly and cost-effectively from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs.

Radio-Television Slovenia produces three national TV channels including a new parliamentary channel plus three national radio channels and a variety of regional programmes for Italian, Hungarian, Romany communities as well as for Slovenians living abroad. The network transmits terrestrially as well as via Eutelsat Hot Bird 3, internet and mobile portals.
